We were really pleased to receive outline planning approval from Stoke on Trent Council for residential development in the greenbelt beside the A34 Newcastle Road.
The site, whilst in the greenbelt constituted previously developed land and there were a number of dilapidated buildings on site. We were able to successfully argue that the removal of existing buildings and there replacement with a bespoke apartment building would be of significant benefit in the area, would provide much needed homes for key workers from the neighbouring hospital, and most importantly would not affect the openness of the greenbelt. In addition the site had issues with highways and required a significant amount of investigation into Air Quality to which we received great support from AERQuality Limited in Newcastle under Lyme.
Development in the greenbelt development is notoriously difficult, but with the right circumstances it is not impossible and can be very rewarding to landowners and developers.
